New faculty t-shirts SCITEM PRO… VĚDU

From May, the faculty will be introducing new promotional materials, including a new T-shirt in the faculty’s green colour with the inscription ‘MUNI SCITEM PRO VĚDU’, i.e. ‘MUNI WITH THE SENSE FOR SCIENCE’, complemented with graphics related to the 200th anniversary of the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel. The design is based on the new concept of ‘MUNI SCITEM PRO…’, I.E. ‘MUNI WITH THE SENSE FOR…’, which connects the MUNI SCI brand with the main topics of the faculty.

Time off for employees and students

There will be Dean’s time off on May 19, 2022 for all students in connection with the celebration of the Dies academicus 2022 ceremony and Campus day activities. Classes will not be held during this day. Employees participating in these events will be excused from their job duties.

For three months, she measured the stress of scientists on an expedition to Antarctica: I bribed them with chocolate.

"The prototype device we tested in Antarctica can measure stress. It could be used by pilots, astronauts, medics, but also by patients. It could help them to heal faster," says anthropologist Lucie Ráčková in an interview with Martin Veselovský for DVTV. (Available in Czech only.)

A special admissions procedure for applicants from Ukraine

The MU Faculty of Science opens a special admissions procedure for Bachelor’s and Follow-up master’s studies for applicants with Ukrainian citizenship or permanent residence in Ukraine. Applications can be submitted from April 15 to May 21 2022.

In 2022, we commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Gregor Johann Mendel, known worldwide as the Father of Genetics. He discovered the basics of heredity while growing peas in the Abbey of Old Brno.

Studying isolation and stress in Antarctica. Next stop, space?

Ph.D. student Lucie Ráčková, working at the Environmental Physiology research group, RECETOX, studies the relationship between isolation and acute and chronic stress. As a polar expedition member to the J.G. Mendel Station on James Ross Island, Antarctica, she investigated how polar explorers perceive separation from their daily lives and whether they feel stressed.
