In just one month, at the beginning of January 2026, Masaryk University's 20th expedition will set off for Antarctica. In addition to scientific research, the mission will also include a significant modernisation of the medical equipment at the J. G. Mendel Czech Antarctic Station, located on James Ross Island.
Since 2020, Masaryk University’s Vice-Rector for Research has been awarding a prize for outstanding achievements in research. This year, the MUNI Scientist award was presented to 39 researchers and research teams.
Since 2021, MU has awarded the Career Restart grant to help people reintegrate into the research environment after a long career break.

The iGEM Brno team of students from Masaryk University and Brno University of Technology has achieved historic success, securing the overall victory in the Overgraduate category at the iGEM global synthetic biology competition.
A ceremony was held at the Augustinian Abbey on Mendel Square, during which newly habilitated academics from Masaryk University received their appointment decrees. A total of 14 experts from eight MU faculties successfully completed the habilitation (appointment) process.

Turkish professor Burcu Özsoy, known for her expertise in polar research and remote sensing, was recently invited to Brno to participate in a Faculty of Science conference focused on leadership issues.
In mid-October, an MU delegation took part in a working trip across Brazil. Over the course of two weeks, they visited a number of universities, research centres, and secondary schools.
