Physics café shows how to calculate the potential of renewable energy sources

Using simple examples that can be included in physics lessons in secondary and primary schools, physicists are able to estimate realistic values for renewable energy potential. To do this, they need to know the starting parameters, such as the efficiency of the processes. Everything else is just a matter of knowing and being able to apply the laws of physics correctly. The MUNI Mendel Doctorandus programme has been officially launched!

Although the launch of the new program for active PhD students took place during the PhD day on September 14, 2022, we now had the opportunity to meet the newly enrolled students of the MMD programme face to face for the first time. The budgetary impacts of the present energy/economic crises are currently being addressed not only at the level of governments, ministries or managers of large organisations, such as universities, but also within individual faculties. The topic is presently being handled by the Vice-Dean for Economics, Roman Simon Hilscher, who fully believes that the faculty can handle the current crisis.

According to Zdeněk Bochníček, the Vice-Dean for Teacher Programs at the Faculty of Science, the prestige of the teaching profession will improve when there will be a preponderance of teachers who are fondly remembered by students and pupils throughout their lives. Vice-Dean Bochníček, who teaches physics for students in physics and non-physics programs, is one of them.

Ceremonial matriculation of new students

On Tuesday, 18 October, the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students took place. Students of the first year of Bachelor's studies took the matriculation oath and were solemnly admitted into the academic world. We wish everyone the smoothest course of study!

Hana Svatoňová has held the role of Vice-Dean for external relations, communication and marketing at the faculty since spring of this year. She graduated in mathematics and geography at the Faculty of Science, majoring in cartography, geoinformatics and remote sensing.
