Project Support Office
The Technology Agency of the Czech Republic (TA CR) was established in 2009 as a state organization whose main mission is to support applied research through public funding. TA CR implements not only its own programs but also sectoral programs supporting applied research and innovation. Each year, hundreds of research projects carried out by small, medium-sized, and large enterprises, research organizations, and universities receive TACR support.
TA CR PROGRAMMES AND PROPOSAL CALLS
The SIGMA Programme consolidates several partial TA CR programmes into a single framework. Its main objective is to support applied research and innovation leading to the creation of new results applicable in practice, addressing the challenges and needs of society and the economy, and supporting solutions to systemic measures within the research and innovation environment.

The aim of the THÉTA 2 programme is to contribute to the transformation and modernisation of the energy sector, both through the development of innovative technologies, technical solutions, and approaches applicable in the short-, medium-, and long-term horizons of the energy sector, and through the creation of analyses to support decision-making in energy policy and to improve the regulatory framework. Achieving this objective will support the attainment of the climate and energy goals to which the Czech Republic has committed itself.
ABOUT THETA 2 PROGRAMME
-
Sub-programme 1 – Research in the Public Interest
The objective of this sub-programme is to contribute to the creation of high-quality materials (analyses, models, evaluations of alternative scenarios, etc.) to support objective decision-making by public authorities in the management of the energy sector (strategies, policies, legislation, regulation and pricing, standardisation, or determination of support schemes).Sub-programme 2 – Energy Technologies for Competitiveness
Projects in Sub-programme 2 will contribute to the development of technologies and solutions that can be rapidly applied in practice, thereby supporting the competitiveness of the innovation sector, manufacturing, and supply companies operating in the Czech Republic. This includes increasing their export potential through high value-added products and production processes and their integration into international value chains.Sub-programme 3 – Technologies to Ensure Long-term Sustainability of Energy
Sub-programme 3 will support projects developing technologies and solutions that, at the time of project proposal, are at a lower level of technological readiness (TRL, typically 3 to 5), where rapid practical application of results is not primarily expected. The programme is scheduled to be financed from 2024 to 2031. More information is available here (CZ only).

TREND is a programme of the Ministry of Industry and Trade whose main objective is to increase the international competitiveness of enterprises, primarily by expanding their presence in foreign markets, entering new markets, or moving up the global value chains. This objective will be achieved through support for industrial research and experimental development projects and by implementing their results in practice, in particular in industrial production and in the range of products offered on the market.
ABOUT TREND PROGRAMME
The Programme is divided into two sub-programmes:
Sub-programme 1 “Technology Leaders” – focused on enterprises that already have experience in carrying out research and development in-house, as well as enterprises that have experience in purchasing R&D services from research organisations but have not yet developed their own R&D activities.
Sub-programme 2 “Newcomers” – the aim of this sub-programme is to initiate in-house research and development activities in enterprises that have not so far carried out their own R&D activities on a regular basis nor purchased R&D services from research organisations.
The duration of the Programme is set from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2030. More information is available here (CZ only).
PRODEF is a programme of the Ministry of the Interior aimed at the continued development of national R&D&I in the field of the defence industry, through increased involvement of Czech entities in international supply chains and consortia, and by strengthening the technological level of Czech entities that are already active, or may become active, in defence-related R&D&I.
ABOUT PRODEF PROGRAMME
The programme is structured into the following sub-programmes:
- Sub-programme 1: Support for Czech applicants in EDF calls – this sub-programme focuses on supporting successful projects within individual EDF calls.
- Sub-programme 2: National public calls in defence research – this sub-programme is focused on projects of applied research and innovation in the areas of modern emerging and breakthrough technologies that can be used to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, as well as on applied research and innovation projects thematically aligned with the areas defined in the Concept of Defence Applied Research, Development and Innovation 2023–2029.
The programme is expected to run from 2024 to 2031. Public calls under Sub-programme 2 are expected to be launched in 2026 and 2028. The launch of national calls supporting projects under Sub-programme 1 will depend on the timing of calls announced under the European Defence Fund and related programmes. More information is available here.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMES
European Partnerships build on the currently ongoing ERA-NET Cofunds, which are instruments of the European Commission aimed at aligning financial support for research. They thus represent one of the ways to establish international cooperation in applied research and innovation. They provide Czech applicants with the opportunity to submit projects together with foreign partners in international calls. These calls are jointly launched by funding organisations from individual Member States involved in a given ERA-NET Cofund or Partnership, and TA ČR acts as such a funding organisation for the Czech Republic.
International calls supported by TA ČR include the following programmes:
HOW TO APPLY
- The exact conditions and deadlines for projects are published in the specific call.
- At least two weeks before the deadline, it is necessary to inform the PSO (see contact persons) of your intention to submit a project—whether you are the principal investigator, a co-investigator, or whether the Faculty of Science is participating in the project as a partner of another MU faculty.
- At the same time, the project HR officer must be informed and provided with a list of persons planned to be included in the project proposal (for the purpose of consulting salary planning).
- Planned results may be consulted in advance with the Technology Transfer Office (Hana Půstová).
- The project proposal is completed in the SISTA application.
- If MUNI participates in the project as a partner, this participation must be approved in SISTA by the organisation administrator at RMU. To avoid unnecessary delays, it is necessary to create the project proposal in ISEP as soon as possible, stating the number assigned by SISTA, or to inform the PSO about the prepared proposal.
- All persons listed by name in SISTA must have a registered SISTA account linked to the organisation. Do not leave these steps until the last minute.
- Before submission, proposals must have an approved project proposal cover sheet in ISEP and a declaration of co-financing.
FUNDING
- The funding rules are governed by the General Conditions (CZ only) applicable to the specific call.
- The maximum funding intensity for the entire project usually does not reach 100% and requires co-financing by the institute. The maximum amount of funding for the project as a whole and for individual applicants is always specified in the call documentation.
- Scholarships are eligible costs; however, MUNI does not recommend planning them in projects due to issues related to rights to results (for more information, please contact the PSO).
- Costs for subcontracting are limited to 20% of the total eligible costs of all project participants over the entire project duration.
- Overhead costs are planned in the proposal at a rate of 25% of direct costs. During implementation, they are charged according to the current SPN rate.
