French Literature and Linguistics

Follow-up Master's degree in full-time form. The language of instruction is Czech.

The programme can be studied as a single subject or in combination with another programme.

What will you learn?

Would you aim to improve your proficiency in interpretation of French text?

Philology = How do to (real) things with words

The Master in French Literature and Linguistics is specifically designed for you ! after the bachelor programme, which is a large introduction to French literature and practical language, greater importance is given in the Master’s programme to various applications of theoretical aspects of French philology, both in linguistics and literature. Stress is put on the textual dimension of studies and text interpretation : in that way, the Master's programme conveys knowledge of descriptive and analytical methods, extremely useful in contemporary times. Students are also expected to acquire the skills for independent and interdisciplinary scientific work.

Is the French Language and Literature program right for you?

Which skills should you expect to improve?

The purpose of the Master's thesis is to acquire an in-depth knowledge of a specific topic (in literature or linguistics). Students should demonstrate the ability to work critically with specialized texts, use the concepts and theories learned, then propose personal interpretations of texts. Spirit of initiative and originality are especially highlighted.

You did not get a Bachelor’s degree in French studies?

Students enrolled usually have a Bachelor’s degree in French Literature and Linguistics, but this is not mandatory. Further interviews will be required if not.

Practical training

Would you like to travel and spend a semester or more in France?

An Erasmus stay in France is possible and recommended (but not mandatory) : in that purpose, our department has already set up two very successful double-degree partnerships with Paris-Est and Rennes 2.
