What did you want to be when you were young?
I wanted to be a doctor or a vet. I loved bandaging the feet of my stuffed toy animals and building wheelchairs for my dolls.
Why did you choose medical genetics and molecular diagnostics?
For me, it is an ideal combination of medicine and natural sciences. It allows me to participate in interesting research and help people, all without the need for excessive anatomy.
What led you to choose the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University?
I was really interested in the possibilities of practical experience during my studies, and the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University cooperates with many laboratories of world importance.
Would you choose our faculty again?
Definitely yes.
How do you like the environment where you study?
Well, I’m currently studying in the environment of my living room; and while it needs repainting, I think it is beautiful 😊. As for the university premises, the campus is like a maze with beautiful laboratories, and an even nicer cafe.
What subject has impressed you the most and why?
Molecular biotechnology.
What possibilities are there for involving students in practical research in our country?
I think the possibilities are quite broad. I think everyone here has the possibility of finding research topics that will suit their taste.
Have you already used the opportunity to study or work abroad?
Not yet, but I’m definitely thinking about an internship in the future.
How did you get into the Generation Mendel group?
One of our lecturers in molecular biotechnology mentioned that a team for the iGEM competition was being formed. And I thought, why not?
What did your participation in Generation Mendel bring you?
In addition to a few sleepless nights, a lot of experience. I got first-hand experience of what a genuine scientific project entails; from raising funds through to working in the laboratory and promotion on social networks. But above all, I joined a great group of people who can analyse the transformation of bacteria with a beer at 2 a.m.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to continue with Generation Mendel and immerse myself in my own research in the field of immunology.
