The project focuses on the corrosion of magnesium alloys under anaerobic conditions and the influence of methanogenic archaea, sulfate-reducing bacteria, and their mixed cultures on this process. Its aim is to describe the mechanism of microbially influenced corrosion and propose the first bifunctional inhibitor providing both corrosion and microbial protection. The results fill a knowledge gap and lead to a revision of conventional approaches, promoting broader and more sustainable use of magnesium materials.
