The project responds to the emerging debate in the field of environmental gerontology and the
sociology of consumption by exploring the links between environmentally friendly lifestyles and
ageing. The project stands on two innovative pillars: Firstly, we shift scholarly attention to the
challenges that older age poses to pro-environmental lifestyles while also exploring the broader
social significance and potential of older people's resilience, generativity and social
relationships in the context of contemporary polycrisis. Secondly, the project generates unique
empirical data in the form of a fourth wave of longitudinal study started by prof Hana Librová in
1992 with families living environmentally friendly lifestyles, so-called “Colourful”, their children
and - newly - grandchildren. This enables us to focus not only on changes in environmentally
friendly practices and values within a life course in changing social, economic, and
technological conditions but also to study the nature of their transmission across three
generations.
