This experiment aims to validate a smart T-shirt prototype designed to monitor astronauts' stress levels during
short-term space missions. The T-shirt integrates advanced wearable sensors to capture physiological
parameters such as core and skin temperature, oxygen consumption, and ambient temperature. These inputs are
used to compute stress entropic load (SEL), a novel thermodynamic metric that quantifies the body's stress
response by measuring entropy production that was developed as a unique approach to stress measurement at
Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic. The smart T-shirt offers a non-invasive, real-time approach to stress
monitoring, addressing the challenges astronauts face during mission-critical operations, such as fatigue and
physiological adaptation to microgravity. By collecting SEL data, the system enables predictive modelling of
metabolic shifts, allowing for timely interventions to mitigate adverse health effects or to estimate the safety time
in dangerous environments. The ultimate goal of the project is to deliver a functional, wearable device that
supports astronaut health monitoring and stress management throughout the mission, contributing to the safety
and success of missions. The experiment will lay the groundwork for further advancements in wearable health
technology for stress measurement for space exploration and beyond.
Sustainable Development Goals
