The aim of the project is to investigate the nature of cognitive style and its within- and between-culture variability in Czech and Taiwanese population. Furthermore, we will investigate the links between cognitive style (analytic and holistic dimension) and its cultural determinants such as individualistic and collectivistic values, writing system, and other demographic and socioeconomic variables. In the series of computer-administered tests the variables will be measured on three main levels: 1. cultural and socioeconomic variables via questionnaires; 2. cognitive style with the help of well grounded a verified methods - Framed-Line Test and Compound Figure Test and 3. complex visual stimuli and the maps will be administered in order to detect differences in cognitive strategies by solving different type of tasks. In order to improve the possibilities of interpretation of the results, data from other cultural groups e.g. western Europe will be gathered. On the basis of the results complex model of relationships between culture and cognition will be created and evaluated.
