Canonical cyclin-dependent kinases (CDK1-CDK9) are well studied and their roles in regulation of cell cycle and transcription as well as their deregulation in various cancers are well-established. However, human cell contains eleven more “non-canonical” CDKs (CDK10-CDK20) and their molecular functions are either very poorly understood or not established at all. Recent studies in patients indicate significant cancer-related functions and deregulations for many “non-canonical” CDKs in various tumours. Thus deciphering their molecular functions is an emerging critical question in the field. This grant application serves to provide funds needed to finish final experiments in the project of characterization of one of the non-canonical CDKs.
