The precise and detailed description of bacterial type strains deposited in microorganisms collections is the basic condition for the control of their identity and authenticity. The type strains are necessary for nearly all taxonomic studies because they represent hitherto described species. Molecular methods based on the analysis of the cellular DNA play an important role together with classical phenotypic tests. Ribotyping represents a molecular method used often in the bacterial taxonomy studies. This method is based on the DNA polymorphism analysis of the genes for ribosomal RNA and the close chromosomal regions. The aim of the project proposed is ribotyping of the type strains of gram-positive cocci and gram-negative rods deposited in the Czech Collection of Microorganisms (CCM). The hybridization profiles database obtained will be a basis for the identification of atypical strains and for the verification of the strain authenticity during a repeated cultivation or the control of strain identit
