doc. Mgr. Petr Táborský, Ph.D.

*4. 2. 1979 in Brno

Petr Táborský studied Analytical Chemistry at Masaryk University’s (MU) Faculty of Science between 1997 and 2002, receiving his Master’s in 2002 and his Doctorate in 2005. Between 2005 and 2007, he was employed at the Department of Analytical Chemistry as a researcher, and at the Department of Chemistry as Assistant Professor between 2007 and 2014, receiving his habilitation to Associate Professor in 2014. Petr has completed several study and research internships, including visits to the University of Barcelona, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland and the Max Planck Institute in Tuebingen, Germany. He is presently the garantor for the Bachelor’s Chemistry study programme. In July 2023, he was appointed Director of the Department of Chemistry. His goal now is to create a dynamic, forward-looking and constantly developing team within the Department of Chemistry that will be both competitive and respected throughout Europe. He sees cooperation, awareness, openness and a close connection between quality teaching and excellent science as basic requirements for such a team.

Research in the field of luminescence methods

In his research group, the Laboratory of Luminescence Methods, he has long been dedicated to interdisciplinary research projects at the border of analytical, medical, physical chemistry and biochemistry. Currently, the group is focusing on two main topics, the interaction of alkaloids with biomolecules and environmental effects on fluorescence emission. P. Táborský has published numerous professional articles, many of them in cooperation with foreign colleagues. He cooperates closely with the MU Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science’s National Centre for Biomolecule Research. He is an editor for the journal Chemical papers and is a long-term member of the Jan Mark Marci Spectroscopic Society, for which he has co-organised several conferences and summer schools.

In 2017, under the framework of institutional accreditation, he was commissioned to accredit the Bachelor’s Chemistry study programme, which is continuously being improved based on annual meetings of the programme board, subject polls and student suggestions. In addition to teaching at the Faculty of Science, he also teaches at the MU Faculty of Medicine and, in the past, has lectured at the Descartes Pedagogical Institute, where he brought science closer to the public, and has worked as a chemistry lecturer at the English high school/International School of Brno.

Finally, P. Táborský has supervised several Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral students, receiving the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for excellent results in Doctoral studies for his work with his two Doctoral students.
