Dean Tomáš Kašparovský and Faculty Bursar Roman Čermák have unveiled a new student and staff entrance from Veveří Street to the grounds of the MU Faculty of Science on Kotlářská. The gate is located next to the library building and will facilitate access to the grounds for everyone who gets off at the nearby Konečného náměstí tram stop.
“Our students and employees have long pointed out that they lack a connection between the campus with Veveří and Kounicova streets, the journey to the school from the centre of Brno or the nearby public transport stops requiring unnecessary bypassing of the faculty buildings. Therefore, while it was not easy, I am very happy that we managed to secure finances and find a satisfactory solution, thanks to which the campus is now better connected to the other faculties and the University Rector’s office”, said the Dean of the faculty, Tomáš Kašparovský.
The newly established gate forms part of a project to not only install new fencing around the campus but also to facilitate access to the faculty for all students and staff. In addition to the gate itself, it was necessary to build a new staircase and walkway leading to the library, around which the employees of our botanical garden have planted greenery.
“We were looking for an optimal solution that not only improves accessibility to the grounds but also ensures adequate security. This is also why the entrance is only open on working days from 6:00 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. and you need to use an employee card or an ISIC card to get in. Outside of this time, on weekends and holidays, the gate is closed electronically”, said the Faculty Bursar, Roman Čermák, adding that the second gate leading to Kounicova Street, which entered into operation in December 2020, also operates in the same way.
People with reduced mobility can still use the main entrance to the campus from Kotlářská Street, which is barrier-free, to enter the faculty.
