The Czech Republic has another satellite of its own in space, about an hour and a half ago it was carried into orbit by a SpaceX rocket. The aim of the satellite, about the size of a wine box, is to test instruments developed by domestic companies in the hostile space environment. Scientists from Masaryk University in Brno have developed two gamma-ray detectors. This has so far only been investigated with instruments costing hundreds of millions of dollars.

Norbert WERNER, astrophysicist, Masaryk University:
"We wanted to show that it can be done with small satellites, satellites that are only 10 cm or satellites that small countries or universities can afford."

The Dean has decided that if a student cannot attend classes because of the floods or is involved in efforts to deal with the damages will be automatically excused. Should the situation continue past the first week of classes, students should contact the Students’ office for individual consultation.
