Gold Medal nominations

Eligible candidates for Gold Medal
Molecular biologists who are currently working in one of the EMBC Member States and who are under the age of 40 years, or within 10 years of having obtained their PhD or equivalent, on the day of the deadline for nominations (1 February).

Please note:

• For female candidates with children, both eligibility criteria are automatically extended by one year per child.
• For male candidates with children, the limits can be extended by the actual time taken off as paternity leave or - if their partner is working at least 80% FTE - by 1.5 months per child, whichever is longer. 
• Severe illness and extended military service are considered as exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis. If you feel the circumstances warrant an extension of the eligibility periods for your candidate, please contact the EMBO office for advice before submitting the nomination.

Nominations
EMBO Members and EMBO Young Investigators are invited every year to nominate candidates for the medal. To be considered, a nomination must be supported by one proposer (EMBO Member or EMBO Young Investigator) and two sponsors (EMBO Members) and must include:

1. Nomination form
2. CV of the proposed candidate
3. Individual statements (letters of support) from the proposer and the two sponsors indicating why they believe the candidate should be considered for the medal

The deadline for receipt of nominations is 1 February.

Candidates for EMBO Membership can simultaneously be nominated for the Gold Medal.

Selection of the winner
A committee comprising the EMBO Council, the Director of EMBO and the Secretary General of EMBO will be responsible for selecting the winner of the medal.

Candidates who do not win the award will automatically be reconsidered for the award in the following year if still eligible.
