Polyploidy is a major force in plant evolution, yet the mechanisms shaping genome stability, subgenome interactions, and chromosomal evolution remain elusive. This project leverages Cardamine (Brassicaceae), a model for polyploid genome dynamics, to uncover how hybridization, genome duplication, and structural changes drive adaptation. Using highthroughput sequencing, cytogenetics, and Hi-C, we will reconstruct polyploid origins, dissect subgenome architecture, and reveal chromosomal restructuring processes. We will determine the role of aneuploidy and B chromosomes in genome evolution and decode ribosomal DNA inheritance patterns. CRISPR-based chromosome engineering will push the boundaries of experimental genomics. By integrating cutting-edge genomics and genome editing, this project will transform our understanding of polyploid genome resilience, with profound implications for biodiversity, adaptation, and genome engineering.
