Numerical simulations in computational models are important tools for studying cardiac electrophysiology and mechanisms of arrhythmias. These models are routinely deployed on high performance computing (HPC) systems (“supercomputers”). However, HPC access varies across the community. There are teams that are pushing towards exascale computing (1018 calculations per second) using models that discretize individual cardiac cells with thousands of elements. At the same time, many teams in Europe do not use HPC at all, mainly due to lack of experience, being limited to using considerably simpler models and simulation approaches.
To use the experience of the researchers and engineers involved in HPC simulations of cardiac electrophysiology to educate, assist, mentor, and inspire the researchers who do not utilize or do not have experience with HPC.
MICROCARD-3 stems from the demand of the cardiac modeling community in Europe and aims to improve the utilization of HPC resources by this community
